Embracing the Unknown

Has anyone ever stood at the edge of a new chapter, uncertain of what to expect?? Well that’s something I know all to well, but I have found my balance of excitement and nervousness overtime.

The unknown can be different for each person - life changes, uncertainties in your career, relationships… so many things! We all will step into the unknown at some point in time, and what matters is how we manage the discomfort. Just know that the fear or doubts you may experience are totally normal, and there’s so much beauty that will emerge from being in that space as things start to unfold.

There were times throughout my 20’s where I tried to avoid the unknown because it was easier, felt safer. Yet, no growth will occur in the ‘safe zone’ that we make for ourselves. So we have to find ways to manage our emotions and adapt. I think the best example of this was the pandemic, and I hate to be that person, but that was life-changing for us all.

For many of us, stepping into the unknown is an invitation to trust the process, and if you believe in God, trusting in him to expand what lies ahead of us. Creating capacity for growth and to really find beauty of what will unfold.

“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord. “Plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” - Jeremiah 29:11

If there’s anything I can share with you, it’s that these practical steps anchored my approach to embracing the unknown.

Lean into your curiosity instead of fear

With every unfamiliar path, there is an opportunity for growth and discovery. Approach the unknown without hesitation, and be guided well. Fear can be such a blocker to the joy that will emerge once you experience what you’re avoiding! I have previously given into fear (sometimes I still catch myself), but ultimately I recognise that through the seasons I go through, I have to be curious about the amazing plans that will begin to unfold in good time and lean into it.

Smart small

Big changes, don’t require us to take big steps forward either! In fact, sometimes the most impactful shifts will occur through small consistent changes that we make. What’s one small action you can take today? For me, when I began to start waking up 30 minutes earlier a day, I was able to spend that time getting some things done, journalling, reading my book or preparing for my day ahead. Overtime this gave me further incentive to structure my days better. Think about what you want to incorporate into your life.

Reflect and journal through the progressive changes

I encourage you to reflect and document your thoughts, fears and reflections as you navigate this experience - but don’t forget to also take note of your small wins! We forget at times to not acknowledge the progress we’ve made, it may feel small but it will always be an important part of your journey.

Surround yourself with community

This is something I never take for granted, key family members and my closest confidants both personally and professionally really held me down in so many ways.

During this season, just know that I’m still learning to embrace the unknown. It can definitely be daunting, evoking a mixture of different emotions but ultimately, it’s where the really transformation can begin and where you can step out of your discomfort knowing that everything will work out in divine timing.

Would you rather have yesterday’s predictable or tomorrow’s unknown? I encourage you to step into your new season and just watch how you grow from it.

Pause & Reflect…

Take a moment to reflect on a season in your life when you had to face the unknown. What were your biggest fears? What did. you learn about yourself during that time and how can you use that experience to embrace uncertainty in your current season?

I am excited for our community and I know that no matter your season, great things are inbound for you. We can’t wait to see what unfolds.
